On June 7, 1958, the pianist and songwriter John L Nelson and singer Mattie Shaw was born in Minneapolis to Prince Rogers Nelson. However, two years later, following the birth of their daughter, Tika Evene, his parents divorced. The remarriage of his mother led to a strained relationship with his stepfather, and he finally ran away from home.
Music became part of his life from an early age. He taught himself, a prodigy, to play more than twenty instruments by himself.
